We try our best to minimise our environmental impact, and teach our children how important it is to look after the planet. We've made the following changes to our routines - and we hope it helps!

Reducing Paper

We are moving away from paper records to an online system to record children's progress.

Milk in bottles

We have our milk delivered to our doorstep in glass bottles which we wash and return – which helps us to cut down on plastic. Even better, we love the clinking noises! Thanks to Foulger's Dairy for helping us with this!

Local fruit and vegetables

We source the fruit and vegetables for our snack from a local greengrocers. We try to use local, seasonal produce as far as possible, and it all comes to us in paper (not plastic) bags.

Recycling

We keep a recycling bin in the hall, and encourage children to separate the rubbish from their lunch boxes so that we can recycle as much as possible. We also recycle any scraps of paper. They love posting it in!

Paper for art

Most of the paper we use for drawing and painting is donated from Clays and is usually scraps that they can't use - however it is perfect for all our arts and crafts!

Reducing food waste

We have got a compost bin and we are trying to use leftover fruit and vegetables from snacks and lunches to start our own compost. We are hoping to use it to grow our own food too!

Getting in touch with nature

We are lucky enough to have our preschool just next to a Norfolk Wildlife Trust site, Broome Common. We take the children out regularly to get them closer to and thinking about nature.

Uniform recycling

We ask parents to give us jumpers and t-shirts that their children have outgrown so that we can recycle them as clothing for younger pre-schoolers.

The more we can do to protect the planet, the better! We are happy to support you with the following:

• Avoiding cling-film and plastic wrappings in packed lunches and using Tupperware instead
• Using reusable nappies – we can bag them up and return them to you for washing
• Listening to suggestions – if you have ideas about how we can increase the children’s environmental awareness, or improve our own, please get in touch.
